We started the day in Copper Harbor, and drove down to Eagle Harbor. It was a cold day, about 50 degrees, foggy and windy along the shore. Waves crashing along the shore made for some interesting shots. In Eagle Harbor we stopped at the lighthouse for a few moments. The fog and dim morning light made for interesting compositions. View of Eagle Harbor from the lighthouse.
Later in the day we drove down to Hancock, and I took this photo of the city of Houghton, with the campus of Michigan Tech in the background. For train buffs, this building is the former home of the Houghton County Traction Company, a trolley service that covered most of northern Houghton County. A small building along the Portage, near the base of the bridge, that once served the Quincy Mining Company. It is built of Jacobsville Sandstone.
What once was.
The remains of the smelting complex at Quincy.
A close-up shot of the Calumet and Hecla logo. This was painted on the side of a restored snow-moving car that was used on company railways.
A freighter traversing Lake Superior, taken from a good vantage point at the top of Brockway Mountain.
